im Thompson is "THEE trumpet player that I want to perform with night after night in my band - a great guy, a fabulous musician, a family man, and a team player," quoted by The Uptown Band's leader Erich Cawalla.

Tim grew up in Doswell, VA. He started lessons on piano at age 6, shortly after, switched to clarinet, and at age 11, to the instrument for which he now loves...the trumpet. While attending Patrick Henry High School, Tim studied trumpet with Bob Davidson and was chosen for many of Virginia's select bands. His unique talent and playing style caught the attention of the Music Department at Temple University in Philadelphia, offering Tim an Excellence in Music Scholarship.

During Tim's college years, he studied with Terrell Stafford, "one of the great trumpet players of our time," as described by jazz legend McCoy Tyner. He received his BSBA in Music Education in 2004.

An educator as well as a performer, Tim currently lives in Upper Darby, PA, and teaches in the Springfield School District, conducting several jazz bands. His credits include performing with some of the world's greatest jazz musicians including Tim Warfield, Doc Gibbs, Clark Terry, Orrin Evans, Jimmy Heath, Antonio Hart, Dick Oatts, Conrad Herwig, Pablo Bautista, Derrick Hodge, and Stefon Harris. Tim has also performed with some of Philadelphia's best latin bands including Soul Fuego, Alo Brasil, and Conjunto 23.

On a personal note, Tim is married to his incredible wife Katie, whom he met while attending Temple. Together, they have two children named Gabriel and Lillian. Besides music, Tim's other hobbies include watching and playing all types of sports and salsa/samba dancing. He is also very involved in various church activities.
